BAROLO: Nella splendida cornice della prima tappa della Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali arriva il 9° posto per Alessandro Fancellu e per il team MBH Bank CSB Telecom Fort.
La frazione si è svolta nello scenario, patrimonio UNESCO, delle colline del Barbaresco e del Barolo, regalando un contesto unico tra vigneti e strade ondulate. La tappa si è conclusa con uno sprint ristretto vinto dal francese Axel Laurance, che ha chiuso i 161 km in 3h44’52”.
Per Fancellu una bella soddisfazione, che conferma il buon rendimento, ma anche un pizzico di rammarico: pur non essendo uno sprinter puro, il corridore comasco era infatti ben posizionato nel finale di un gruppo selezionato a circa 45 unità. Ora il corridore si trova al 9° posto anche della classifica generale con un distacco di 10″ dovuto agli abbuoni.
“È vero – racconta Fancellu – ero lanciato molto bene ed ero sulla ruota di Diego Ulissi, che è molto veloce. Pensavo che un podio fosse alla portata, ma a poche centinaia di metri dall’arrivo sono stato chiuso da un corridore che voleva prendere la stessa ruota. Un vero peccato”.
Per Fancellu, protagonista di un ottimo avvio di 2026, arriva comunque un’altra conferma importante: “Sono qui per fare bene nella classifica finale e partire così è un ottimo segnale. Ora ci sono tappe in cui bisognerà stare attenti e l’ultima sarà decisiva”.
Il giudizio dall’ammiraglia, con Davide Martinelli e Gianluca Valoti: “I ragazzi sono stati molto attenti, affrontando con grinta la frazione. Sulla salita di La Morra erano tutti in ottime posizioni e hanno saputo controllare bene. Peccato per la caduta di Márton Dina, ma per fortuna senza conseguenze gravi”.

9TH PLACE FOR ALESSANDRO FANCELLU IN BAROLO

BAROLO: In the stunning setting of the opening stage of the Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali, Alessandro Fancellu secured 9th place for the MBH Bank CSB Telecom Fort team.
The stage took place in the UNESCO World Heritage landscape of the Barbaresco and Barolo hills, offering a unique backdrop of vineyards and rolling roads. The stage concluded with a reduced bunch sprint, won by French rider Axel Laurance, who covered the 161 km in 3h44’52”.
For Fancellu, it is a satisfying result that confirms his good form, but also comes with a hint of regret: although not a pure sprinter, the rider from Como was well positioned in the finale within a reduced group of around 45 riders.
“It’s true,” said Fancellu, “I was very well placed and was on the wheel of Diego Ulissi, who is very fast. I thought a podium finish was within reach, but a few hundred meters from the line I was boxed in by a rider trying to take the same wheel. A real shame.”
For Fancellu, who has enjoyed a strong start to the 2026 season, this result is still another important confirmation: “I’m here to do well in the overall classification, and starting like this is a great sign. Now there are stages where we’ll need to stay focused, and the final one will be decisive.”
From the team car, Davide Martinelli and Gianluca Valoti commented: “The riders were very attentive, tackling the stage with determination. On the La Morra climb they were all in excellent positions and managed things well. It’s a pity about Márton Dina’s crash, but fortunately without serious consequences.”
