Fethiye (TURCHIA) — Nella 4ª tappa del Tour of Turkey (Marmaris – Fethiye) arriva il 3° posto di Davide Persico (ITA/MBH Bank CSB Telecom‑Fort), che conquista così un nuovo podio dopo quello ottenuto nella tappa inaugurale. Ha vinto Stanislaw Aniolkowski (POL/Cofidis) in 2:52:50, davanti a Riley Pickrell (CAN/Modern Adventure) e a Persico, tutti a pari tempo (2:52:50).

Ottimo anche il risultato di squadra, con Alessandro Fancellu (ITA/MBH Bank CSB Telecom‑Fort) 4° a 36″ dalla maglia di leader di Iván Ramiro Sosa (COL/Equipo Kern Pharma), che guida la classifica generale con 10:39:44.

La frazione odierna è stata animata da una lunga fuga poi riassorbita e da una successiva attesa per la volata finale. Per la formazione MBH Bank CSB Telecom‑Fort c’era fiducia su Persico, in buona condizione in questa prima parte di stagione.

Quello ottenuto in Turchia è il suo 4° podio stagionale: vittoria alla Popolarissima, 2° ad Olbia e due terzi posti in Turchia.

DICHIARAZIONI Davide Persico: “È stata una volata caotica. Sulle salite precedenti si era fatta grande selezione e allo sprint c’erano atleti di qualità; alcuni erano molto provati. Il vento è stata una variabile importante: arrivavano forti raffiche da destra e bisognava restare coperti. Ai -400 metri è partito forte Fernando Gaviria, forse troppo presto. Ho cercato di prenderne la ruota e sono partito a mia volta ai 220 metri — forse un po’ in anticipo, ma altrimenti rischiavo di restare imbottigliato. Sono stato superato negli ultimi 30-40 metri, ma va bene così: l’importante è stare bene ed esserci”.

Sulla corsa: “Nella parte iniziale c’è stata una fuga con corridori locali e sapevamo che bisognava controllare. Grazie ai compagni che mi sono stati vicini e mi hanno scortato nel migliore dei modi”.

Raggiante anche il DS Davide Martinelli: “Questo risultato è molto importante per noi e conferma la bontà del lavoro e del progetto”.

Fethiye (TURKEY) — In the 4th stage of the Tour of Turkey (Marmaris – Fethiye) Davide Persico (ITA/MBH Bank CSB Telecom‑Fort) finished 3rd, earning a new podium after the one he achieved on the opening day. Stanislaw Aniolkowski (POL/Cofidis) won in 2:52:50, ahead of Riley Pickrell (CAN/Modern Adventure) and Persico, all credited with the same time (2:52:50).

A strong team result as well, with Alessandro Fancellu (ITA/MBH Bank CSB Telecom‑Fort) 4th, 36″ behind the leader’s jersey held by Iván Ramiro Sosa (COL/Equipo Kern Pharma), who tops the general classification at 10:39:44.

Today’s stage featured a long breakaway that was later reeled in and a subsequent wait for the final sprint. MBH Bank CSB Telecom‑Fort had confidence in Persico, who has been in good form in this early part of the season.

This is his 4th podium of the season: a win at the Popolarissima, 2nd at Olbia and two 3rd places in Turkey.

QUOTES Davide Persico: “It was a chaotic sprint. The earlier climbs made for strong selection and there were quality riders in the dash; some were very spent. The wind was an important factor: strong gusts were coming from the right and you had to stay sheltered. At -400 metres Fernando Gaviria launched hard, perhaps too early. I tried to take his wheel and went myself at 220 metres — maybe a bit early, but otherwise I risked getting boxed in. I was passed in the last 30–40 metres, but that’s fine: the important thing is to feel good and be there.”

On the race: “Early on there was a break with local riders and we knew we had to control it. Thanks to my teammates who stayed with me and led me out perfectly.”
