OTURA (SPA) – Seconda top 10 consecutiva per il Team MBH Bank Ballan CSB Telecom Fort alla 72ª Vuelta a Andalucía – Ruta Ciclista del Sol gara a tappe spagnola.

Dopo il 6° posto di Nicolò Buratti nella frazione inaugurale, oggi nella Torrox–Otura (138,6 km) è Alessandro Fancellua chiudere in 6ª posizione, al termine di una tappa intensa e selettiva.

Il corridore lombardo è stato protagonista di una prova generosa, restando nel gruppo dei migliori sulla salita decisiva di giornata. Nel finale si è giocato il piazzamento allo sprint contro atleti sulla carta più veloci, riuscendo comunque a conquistare un risultato di prestigio.

Per Fancellu si tratta di un ottimo esordio, segnale importante anche in ottica condizione dopo l’influenza che lo aveva costretto a saltare la presentazione ufficiale del team a Budapest. Per essere al  meglio qui aveva anche sostenuto un periodo in altura a Sierra Nevada. In classifica generale occupa ora l’8ª posizione, a 54” dal leader Iván Romeo.

Da segnalare anche la prova di Lorenzo Nespoli, in evidenza sulla salita chiave della giornata, ma è stato tutto il team a muoversi con ordine tattico.

La tappa è stata vinta da Iván Romeo (Movistar), autore di un attacco decisivo a due chilometri dall’arrivo. Secondo posto per Andreas Leknessund (Uno-X Mobility) a 7”, mentre Alex Aranburu (Cofidis) ha regolato la volata del gruppo, giunto sul traguardo con 54” di ritardo.

Le dichiarazioni di Alessandro Fancellu

“Sapevamo che sarebbe stata una corsa molto dura – ha spiegato Fancellu –. Anche ieri, con una salita meno pendente, la tappa è stata esplosiva e oggi ci aspettavamo grande intensità. Come squadra ci siamo comportati molto bene: sulla salita principale eravamo una delle poche formazioni con due corridori nel gruppo dei migliori.

Peccato per il gruppetto che è riuscito ad anticipare davanti, mentre dietro si è creato un marcamento tra alcune squadre. Nel finale sapevo che lo strappo conclusivo si adattava alle mie caratteristiche, con uno sforzo massimale di circa un minuto. Quando ho trovato la posizione ai -250 metri ho lottato con tutte le forze per il piazzamento. C’è un po’ di rammarico perché poteva essere anche qualcosa in più, ma resta una grande soddisfazione per essere competitivo già alla prima gara.

La classifica è ancora molto corta e credo che nei prossimi giorni assisteremo a grande spettacolo per la generale.”

In ammiraglia Davide Martinelli con Orlando Maini: “La gara è tutta da interpretare ed è difficile capire quando si deciderà la classifica. Oggi avevamo 4 corridori davanti: Matteo Ambrosini (poi caduto ma sembra nulla di grave), Luca Cretti, Lorenzo Nespoli e Ale Fancellu. Si è partiti subito fortissimo e in una tappa di 140 km diventa difficile recuperare il gap di 2′

ALE FANCELLU 6th  AT VUELTA ANDALUCIA

OTURA (SPA) – A second consecutive top-10 finish for Team MBH Bank Ballan CSB Telecom Fort at the 72nd Vuelta a Andalucía – Ruta Ciclista del Sol, the Spanish stage race.

After Nicolò Buratti’s 6th place in the opening stage, today it was Alessandro Fancellu who secured 6th position in the Torrox–Otura stage (138.6 km), following an intense and selective day of racing.

The Lombardy rider delivered a determined performance, staying with the leading group on the decisive climb of the day. In the finale, he contested the sprint for position against riders considered faster on paper, still managing to secure a prestigious result.

For Fancellu, this marks an excellent season debut and an important sign regarding his condition, especially after the flu that forced him to miss the team’s official presentation in Budapest. In preparation for this race, he had also completed a training camp at altitude in Sierra Nevada. He now sits 8th overall in the general classification, 54 seconds behind race leader Iván Romeo.

Also worth noting was Lorenzo Nespoli’s strong ride on the key climb of the day, though the entire team executed the race with tactical discipline.

The stage was won by Iván Romeo (Movistar), who launched a decisive attack two kilometres from the finish. Andreas Leknessund (Uno-X Mobility) finished second at 7 seconds, while Alex Aranburu (Cofidis) won the sprint from the chasing group, which crossed the line 54 seconds behind.

Alessandro Fancellu’s comments

“We knew it would be a very tough race,” explained Fancellu. “Even yesterday, with a less steep climb, the stage was explosive, and today we expected high intensity. As a team we performed very well — on the main climb we were one of the few teams with two riders in the leading group.

It’s a pity that the small group managed to anticipate us at the front, while behind there was some marking between teams. In the finale, I knew the last ramp suited my characteristics, with a maximal effort of about one minute. When I found my position at 250 metres to go, I fought with everything I had for the placing. There’s a bit of regret because it could have been even more, but it’s still a great satisfaction to be competitive already in my first race.

The overall classification is still very tight, and I believe we’ll see great racing for the GC in the coming days.”

“The race is still open to interpretation, and it’s difficult to understand when the general classification will be decided. Today we had four riders up front: Matteo Ambrosini (who later crashed but it seems nothing serious), Luca Cretti, Lorenzo Nespoli and Ale Fancellu. The pace was extremely high from the start, and in a 140 km stage it becomes very difficult to close a two-minute gap.”
