GEMONA DEL FRIULI: Si è chiusa con il 7° posto di Ale Fancellu nell’ultima tappa, la Cormons – Gemona del Friuli di 165 km, la Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali 2026. Cinque giornate che hanno visto il team impegnato in un confronto di alto livello, non sempre però proficuo dal punto di vista del risultato.
Oggi buonissima prova per Ale Fancellu, che ha saputo essere protagonista nella frazione più dura, caratterizzata da una serie di asperità di rilievo.
La tappa è stata vinta da Mauro Schmid (Team Jayco AlUla), che ha preceduto Axel Laurance (INEOS Grenadiers) in un finale a tre, completato da Alan Hatherly.
È il comasco Fancellu a riassumere la sua prova:
“Chiudo con il dispiacere di non aver fatto ancora meglio. Oggi è stata una buona frazione, ma quello che mi rode è aver lasciato per strada il piazzamento nella classifica generale, dove potevo ambire a una top 5. Non posso considerarmi soddisfatto. Buona performance fisica, ma non un buon risultato”.
Il pensiero torna alla 2^ tappa, con arrivo a Massalengo, nel Lodigiano, dove è stato appiedato da una caduta con rottura della bici.
Una valutazione sulla tappa odierna:
“Oggi ho scollinato tra i migliori cinque. Dopo la Milano-Torino sapevo di andare bene e oggi il percorso si addiceva alle mie caratteristiche. Quando se n’è andato Laurance, il francese della INEOS, ero vicino a lui. Forse mi sono fatto sorprendere, rimanendo leggermente indietro”.
Davide Martinelli in ammiraglia:
“È stata una settimana in cui non è girato tutto nel verso giusto. La caduta di Fancellu nella seconda tappa e quella di Verre ieri ci hanno tolto la possibilità di fare un buon risultato nella generale. Per noi sarebbe stato importante, dopo il podio al Giro della Sardegna, fare ancora bene. Eravamo venuti qui con una squadra competitiva e avevamo buone ambizioni. Accettiamo il verdetto della corsa: sappiamo che il ciclismo è anche questo”.
Si chiude così un week end che ha visto il 2° posto di Budzinski in Francia e il 7° oggi di Fancellu.

GEMONA DEL FRIULI – The Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali 2026 came to an end with a 7th place for Alessandro “Ale” Fancellu in the final stage, the 165 km Cormons – Gemona del Friuli. It was five days of high-level racing for the team, though not always rewarding in terms of results.
Today, a very strong performance from Fancellu, who proved to be among the protagonists in the toughest stage, characterized by a series of demanding climbs.
The stage was won by Mauro Schmid (Team Jayco AlUla), who beat Axel Laurance (INEOS Grenadiers) in a three-man sprint, with Alan Hatherly completing the podium.
Fancellu, from Como, summed up his performance:
“I finish with some regret for not having achieved more. Today was a good stage, but what really bothers me is having lost ground in the general classification, where I could have aimed for a top five. I can’t say I’m satisfied. My physical condition was good, but the result isn’t.”
His thoughts go back to Stage 2, finishing in Massalengo, where he was held up by a crash and a broken bike.
On today’s stage:
“Today I crested among the top five. After Milano-Torino I knew I was going well, and today’s course suited my characteristics. When Laurance, the INEOS rider, went clear, I was close to him. Maybe I got caught out and stayed slightly behind.”
From the team car, Davide Martinelli commented:
“It was a week where not everything went our way. Fancellu’s crash in Stage 2 and Verre’s yesterday cost us the chance of a good overall result. It would have been important for us, after the podium at the Giro della Sardegna, to perform well again. We came here with a competitive team and strong ambitions. We accept the outcome of the race: we know that cycling is also about this.”
The weekend ends with Budzinski’s 2nd place in France and today’s 7th place by Fancellu.
